Calliope Dark Red was first released in 2009. In all our years of growing geraniums, we have never had such positive feedback about any other Geranium. Again and again people would rave about it -when they came to our farm or dropped by market. People called months in advance to make sure we were growing it again. We are!

What's so great about it? Calliope Dark Red is a fantastic colour. A beautiful pure red, and as Joel Goldsmith (president of Goldsmith Seeds) said at the 2009 Canadian Greenhouse Conference keynote address, "It's the red geranium everyone has been waiting for." Calliope is a new class of geraniums, know as an "interspecific geranium". It is essentially a cross between a zonal geranium, and an ivy geranium. Big blooms like the zonals, with a semi-trailing habit. Wow! Lots of big blooms all season long -superb for hanging baskets and containers.

  • Growing Guide
Geraniums like it dry, and they like to be fed. Water only when soil is completely dry. It is best to water first thing in the morning, and water the soil at the base of the geranium, try to keep the geranium itself dry, especially the blooms. Fertilize weekly with an all purpose fertilizer. 'Dead-heading' (removing the dead blooms), should be done as needed, especially after heavy rain..
